Gun Beach

Another weekend and another dive under our belts. Carlton and I did this dive on our own - he heard from a couple co-workers that there were turtles and a manta ray out at Gun Beach, so we decided to check it out!

We did not see as much as we would have liked but we did get to see turtles....three in fact! Unfortunately we did not get close enough to actually get a picture of any of the turtles. :-( But it was still great to see them. Here are some pictures from our GoPro.
Pipes that we followed out to the reef

Crown of thorns Sea Star
We followed pipes out through a channel to get to the reef. We were told to turn left because the Crown of Thorns Sea Star had basically killed off a good portion of the reef to the right. Then we saw a Crown of Thorns Sea Star after we turned to the left...but it was the only one we saw.

Heading back to shore

Shore!
This dive was a bit treacherous coming back in. There is about a four foot wide space to go through the rocks and the waves happened to be crashing right there. Also there was an undertow, so we really had to fight to get through there!! I couldn't grab onto the rocks or pipe because they were too slippery. My shin got banged up against one of the rocks but we made it out mostly unscathed.
Happy to be done!

We have four more dive equipment rentals left on our dive card with the shop on base, so hopefully we will get to do another one this coming weekend. Stay tuned!!

I am ending this with a video Carlton shot during this dive. There was a large anemone (or several small ones) covering one area and lots of clown fish! Enjoy!
